Is Rising Damp Real or a Myth?

Leaks, condensation, external ground levels, salts and a bridged damp-proof course can produce overlapping symptoms.

Salts and earlier finishes can also affect readings, so one measurement should not be treated as a complete diagnosis.

A proportionate inspection considers the moisture pattern, ventilation, external defects, rainwater goods, ground levels, finishes and accessible construction. Further investigation may be needed where areas are concealed or the evidence is inconclusive.
