Materials for older buildings
Many traditional solid-wall buildings manage moisture differently from modern cavity construction. Existing materials, exposure and the source of moisture should be understood before selecting plaster, render, insulation or paint. A project may include:
- Compatible plaster or render: Materials selected for the wall construction, condition and agreed finish.
- Masonry repairs: Repointing or local repairs using a mortar appropriate to the existing masonry and exposure.
- Timber repairs: Repair or replacement after the moisture source and structural requirements have been established.
