Damp and Timber Surveys in Dorset
Moisture condensation, wood boring beetle infestation, and wet or dry rot issues can cause major safety risks inside your house structures. Our comprehensive structural damp and timber assessments are unbiased and expert. We help you isolate true root causes and prevent thousands in unnecessary contractor works.
A Look at Diagnostic Inspections:
Electronic Moisture Profiling & Calcium Carbide Testing
We do not just rely on simple warning pins. We construct structural moisture maps across walls using high-precision non-destructive protimeters and perform carbide testing on masonry dust logs when deep validation is required.
Woodworm Infestation checks (Timber Borers)
Identification of active Common Furniture Beetle (Anobium punctatum), Death Watch Beetle, or House Longhorn presence. We analyse exit flights bores and structural dust texture to differentiate historic vs active conditions.
Timber decay profiling (Dry Rot / Wet Rot)
Dry rot (Serpula lacrymans) spreads aggressively through mortar gaps even when moisture levels dry. We trace the core mycelium and locate structural ventilating channels to outline definitive solutions.
Damp and Timber FAQs
Is dry rot worse than wet rot?
Yes. Dry rot spreads through brick structures and drywall, searching for fresh timber sources. It requires chemical sterile treatments and masonry isolation, whereas wet rot can normally be cured simply by stopping the moisture leak and replacing decayed timber sections.
How do you distinguish rising damp from condensation?
Rising damp occurs symmetrically along low ground levels (typically under 1.2m) and leaves classic staining lines. Condensation occurs arbitrarily on cold corners or behind cupboards, sparking black mould patches which rising damp never does.
